What is TED?

TED is a global foundation devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, & Design. Since then, its scope has only grown.

With its annual conferences, videos of talks online on YouTube and at TED.com, initiatives and community projects, TED is now a platform and a global movement focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas.

What is TEDx?

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “Ideas Worth Spreading.” The program is designed to give communities, organizations, and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, curators feature a combination of live presenters and TED videos that spark deep conversations and connections at the local level.

TEDx Organizers do not host events for political reasons, monetary reward, or personal gain. Our organizer can’t even be paid per TED rules. We host TEDxCOS because we truly believe in the power of ideas to change the world. TEDx events are open source, local, and community-driven events that inspire innovation, thought leadership, and visionary insight.

What is TEDxColoradoSprings?

TEDxCOS is your friendly local TEDx event. We’re independently organized and our team is licensed by TED in NYC. We’re the flagship local event for the city of Colorado Springs, and we’ve been here since 2014. Some of our volunteers have been on staff since those days, and many of our volunteers are natives of the region. We are proud community members and supporters. We’ve hosted events at Library 21C, Stargazers Theater, and we’re now at the Ent Center for the Arts. Our mission is unique to our location here at the base of Pikes Peak, and we derive the purpose of our contribution to the community from our local history.

Online, where we engage with thousands of former and future speakers, volunteers, and audience members, we’re @TEDxCOS everywhere. On YouTube, our talks have been seen millions of times on the official TEDx Youtube Channel with 22 million subscribers. On TED.com, one of the most- visited websites in the world, our talks have been featured on the main page, in blog posts, and shared thousands of times.

What is a TEDx Member?

TEDx Members are groups, families, and organizations who want to partner, sponsor, exhibit, or otherwise be a part of a local TEDx event. Our Members are TED geeks like us, and they care about sharing their message with one of the most thoughtful, inspired, and action-oriented audiences in Colorado Springs.

Our members carry the mission and maintain the culture of our organization by encouraging conversation, innovation, and growth that otherwise wouldn’t have taken place in our community.

Our Mission

TEDxColorado Springs is a cultural organization whose mission is to amplify unheard voices in our community and voices from outside our community altogether to give our city better perspective on ourselves and the world around us. We are a platform for people with worthwhile stories. We encourage our speakers to paint visions that challenge us to dream differently. We have hosted an entire day of these talks to challenge, inspire, and inform our community annually since 2014. Our events are attended by thousands of the most passionate, driven, thoughtful, and curious people in Colorado Springs.

As of 2019, we accomplish this mission through two flagship events each year. @TEDxCOS is celebrated its 5th year in 2019. Since then, we’ve begun celebrating our rich history of amazing TEDxTalks from community members of all kinds on our social platforms. Our talks have garnered millions of views through our social platforms and we feature them regularly with the hashtag #CelebrateTEDxCOS.

We center our event on the overlaps between innovation, marketing, and sustainable community growth – and like all TEDx events, we feature talks which explore Technology, Entertainment, and Design.

We are proud, through the Lander Foundation, to be able to support & promote other organizations who are investing in the Colorado Springs cultural community, too. We care deeply about designing our stage and the impact of our organization as a whole to be a platform for worthwhile talks that otherwise might not find an audience.
